2001 Primera Finishing

3 July 2009

Finishing it all:

that's it all back together, it looks almost invisible when tucked away, the whole install took about 5 hours in total

It fits nicely under the lip of the upper dash when its out, and can stay that way for a while,
at some point I would like to swap the two screen around, so the computer one is in the main area under the speedo.

The front end:

As it is a normal windows PC running XP, there are more options available.

I decided to used Ride Runner as my front end, and made myself a custom skin.
most of the skins were to complex and packed with things we do not have commonly available here.
like cheap mobile internet, sat radio and some were impractical to use especially in a car.

the clock when you tap it changes into a speedo, then a compass both getting their info via the GPS unit installed

every screen has a next track button at the bottom right of the screen, as i use this the most its easy to find by touch while driving without taking your eyes off the road

GPS navigation, one of my new best friends, this is Garmin nRoute, it's old but has good routing and does the job,
I have stayed with this over more visually pretty options as I don't want to be tempted to try changing things while driving
this is to fiddly, and very much a set up before you start (as you should do).
The maps I use are open source from here at NZ Open GPS Project, they are totally free and updated every 2 weeks
